Who We Are
Moms Rooted in Prayer is a small faith community of Catholic moms who believe in the power of prayer. We gather together every week to pray scripturally and intentionally over our children, church, and school community. We place our heartfelt prayers in the loving arms of Jesus during our prayer time and walk away with a sense of peace, trusting in God’s Holy will and His perfect timing.
Our original group began in our local Catholic school when it opened in 2001. Two special moms knew the impact that time in prayer together would create in the lives of their children, as well as in building faith and support within the community. Over time, we met in the school chapel, the main church, church meeting rooms and outdoor space, and then finally in a local park during CoVid 2020. This is where our current group continues to meet amidst the beauty of God’s creation, among the trees and overlooking the water.
In 2020, we also discerned the need for a more firm Catholic identity and made changes to the previous non-denominational format we were using. We formally incorporated into our prayer time the beauty of our Catholic liturgical seasons, feast days, saints, and the intercession of Our Blessed Mother. We became Moms Rooted in Prayer. While our Catholic identity is evident throughout our prayer time, we do joyfully welcome moms of all faiths to participate!
Our logo is a tree with roots, symbolizing the richness, depth, and foundation of our Catholic faith. We are first and foremost rooted in Christ. The logo roots also represent the support system that praying moms are blessed to have together, like trees have underground. Our prayer “roots” intertwine. As mothers, wives, and sisters in Christ, we hold each other up, creating strength and support for one another during the various peaks and valleys of life.
Finally, we have a special connection to the Scripture story of Mark 2:2-12 or Luke 5:17-26, in which a paralytic man is lowered through the roof by his friends to be healed by Jesus. As Moms Rooted in Prayer, we envision ourselves lowering our children down on a mat before the feet of Jesus for special healing and blessings each time we meet and pray together. We are each others’ “Mat Carriers” and are honored to hold that role (and mat) for each other!
Our witness to Scriptural promises and answered prayers throughout the years has been an amazing truth and evidence of God’s faithfulness! We hope that you will consider the invitation to pray for your child(ren) and community in this special way!
"Prayer is a surge of the heart, it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy."
- St. Therese of Lisieux
